Joise de vivre encompasses Scorpio and Bourjois in global inflight partnership.

In an exclusive partnership agreement, Bourjois Paris has appointed Scorpio Distributors Ltd as its global inflight distributor. At the same time, Bourjois is introducing a travel retail exclusive cosmetic range based on 12 months of collaboration between the two companies.

This exciting development adds to Scorpio’s mission to increase its portfolio selectively, with prestige and innovative companies and brands that share the same passion and desire to add value, fun and incremental revenue to its customers in the Travel Retail Market.

Group business development manager Alan Edwards commented: ‘Every generation over almost 150 years has adored Bourjois and we are honoured and delighted to represent a brand with such history and influence within the cosmetic industry.  All the products are of the highest quality. They are created and manufactured in France, in laboratories and factories that maintain the strictest standards of quality control, ensuring excellence in every item carrying the Bourjois logo.

‘There is a niche in the market for well priced quality branded colour cosmetics, and Bourjois has excelled itself in this area.  We are offering first class, innovative and fun product at fantastic prices – this will turn on many consumers, especially in the current economic climate.’

The new travel retail range has been developed after a careful study of the inflight cosmetics market, pinpointing gaps and clear areas for development – such as nail varnish and eye pencil packs. Using both iconic and new, innovative products from the Bourjois range, a selection of exclusive packs has been developed with the emphasis on creating fabulous ‘looks’ at superb value for money prices (all offer at least a 20% discount off the UK High Street and retail from under £20).

For example, for Eyes there is the Little Round Pot eyeshadow collection (two colour combinations) Each set contains the Award winning Little Round Pot Eyeshadows in three shades. Easy to blend and long lasting, all you need for to create a smoky eye look.

Bourjois’ Commercial Director Andrew Groom commented “We are delighted with our Partnership with Scorpio into the exciting, fast moving area of travel retail. Both companies share similar values and working together has been a real pleasure. The inflight kits represent great savings versus the high street which benefit the inflight customer, and offer airlines something refreshing and different. We have tried to understand the constraints and needs of airlines whilst providing the customer with a relevant and enticing offer that should hopefully prove to be irresistible!”

Says Scorpio group managing director Stuart McGuire: ‘When we entered the perfume and cosmetic market two years ago, our aim was to provide a new approach to the sales and distribution of the brands to the market.  This is not just about better management of brands currently in the market, it is also about bringing freshness and new product.  Bourjois has come up with a range that completely meets that requirement and it has been a delight to work with the team. Everyone has worked extremely hard to develop a concise travel retail range that will meet the specific and separate needs of our customer’s passengers whether in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe or the Americas.  It is a very well thought out and executed offer tailored for each region and is an exciting development for us.  I would like to thank Alan and Annie from my team and all at Bourjois for co-ordinating so well on the project.  It was a proud moment for all of us to have such a positive feedback from the clients.’

Scorpio will be exhibiting Bourjois to potential customers at TFWA World Exhibition this October (Mediterranean Village P19).  For more information contact the Sales team at: salessupport@scorpdis.com

Scorpio appoints Interbrands to Handle Canadian Business

Scorpio Travel Retail Sales has appointed Ontario based company "IntraBrands" as its partner for Canada, effective immediately.

IntraBrands will launch the Scorpio Travel Retail Sales portfolio to the industry at the Frontier Duty Free Association (FDFA) annual convention in

Vancouver next January (11-14).

On show will be a selection of best selling lines including Aviator watches and “Just” plush, both merchandised in their own unique counter and floor display systems, along with Pierre Cardin and Time Design watch, jewellery and gift sets.

Scorpio group sales director
Richard Kennedy says: “The Scorpio Travel Retail Sales business has been expanding fast over the past two years under the guidance of Garry Stoner – our director of sales Middle East / Asia. It’s now time to expand the business beyond Europe and the Middle East / Asia and IntraBrands seemed ideally placed to work with us”.

‘Like Scorpio, they are a small, tight-knit company with strong values and a commitment to customer service.  We are very pleased to be working with Bill Harvey and the team.’ IntraBrands was founded by Barry Parkinson nine years ago and has developed into the leading Travel Retail Specialist in

Canada

Bill Harvey adds: ‘The FDFA Convention in January is the perfect opportunity to launch the Scorpio portfolio to Canadian buyers. We are expecting to do some serious business with Aviator, Just, Pierre Cardin, Time Design etc. both with Canadian/US border shops and international airport hubs.

Heinemann-Scorpio brings new life and new brands to Guernsey Airport

September 28 saw the official opening of a completely transformed duty free shop at Guernsey International Airport in the Channel Islands – the culmination of months of hard work between retailer Wine and Beer Importers (Guernsey) Ltd and Heinemann-Scorpio. Gebr Heinemann was awarded a long term full and exclusive supply agreement earlier this year, with Scorpio handling the day to day management, merchandising and training.

Wine and Beer Importers (Guernsey) Limited is a subsidiary of RW Randall of Guernsey and is the sole retailer at Guernsey, additionally operating two ‘traveller’ shops landside and airside. Airport

The duty free outlet has seen a complete transformation, turning what had been a rather old-fashioned looking shop, lacking in direction in terms of product selection and display, into a modern, bright, clean mini department store that’s easy to navigate and shop.

RW Randall Managing Director Ian Rogers commented: “We have been absolutely delighted with the commitment and passion with which Heinemann and Scorpio have approached this project from Day One to completion. They have been brilliant to work with and it’s been a superb example of partnership in all respects. Our vision was to bring the shop into the present day, to improve the retail selection and to make the shop offer much more in keeping with the passenger profile – after all, Guernsey residents have one of the highest average disposable incomes per head in the world. Heinemann-Scorpio have met that requirement100 per cent.’

To meet the expectations of Guernsey’s 900,000* annual well-heeled passengers, a far greater emphasis has been put on fragrances and beauty products than previously, with several brands introduced for the first time including Clarins and Estee Lauder. Shop manageress Mandy Hill adds: ‘We’ve also significantly expanded the range of Clinique products offered and fragrances from Armani, Gucci and Jean Paul Gaultier. We introduced Gucci’s new line, Flora, and sold out in

three days. Dior lines have also been expanded and are selling exceptionally well.’

The accessory offer has also been significantly upgraded, reducing the number of ‘local’ souvenirs in favour of designer  names such as Prada and Dolce & Gabbana  - sunglasses, watches, ties, Swarovski jewellery, leathergoods etc and a dedicated Hugo Boss gondola.

With two front entrances from the airside lounge area, the shop divides fairly cleanly into two areas, with beauty products and accessories to the left and liquor, tobacco and confectionery to the right. In between is a two sided sales area which also offers a range of impulse add-ons such as Guernsey fudge, toffee and gache (local fruit bread).

Liquor and tobacco remains a key category in the shop, offering competitive prices compared to the domestic market (Guernsey is a tax free but not duty free island), with an extended selection of wines and improved premium brand offer. Confectionery has also been extended to include key brand selections, wider choice and bigger pack sizes.

Scorpio group business development director Alan Edwards says: “Guernsey is unusual in that it remains with duty-free status within Europe; has a

very affluent business-leisure  passenger mix – apart from one month this year, passenger traffic has not fallen despite the economic situation – and the previous shop simply wasn’t capitalising on this. We are thrilled to have been given this fantastic opportunity to work with Ian and his team at Randalls and Wine and Beer Importers and are delighted with the result. ‘

‘It’s early days, of course, but sales figures within the first few days of opening the new outlets are very, very positive and we have had some great feedback from regular customers through the shop,’  he adds.

Notes for editors: Housed in a new, modern terminal building, Guernsey Airport (GCI) provides access for Guernsey residents to Europe and mainland Britain, whilst also bringing  business and leisure traffic to the island. The single terminal has an annual capacity for 1.25 million passengers. Currently it sees around 900,000 passengers pass through the terminal each year.

Bigger stand for Scorpio reflects business growth and commitment to region

The Scorpio Group is more than doubling the size of its stand at TFWA Asia Pacific this year (K28) to 59sq m, reflecting the growth of its business and continued commitment to the region, despite the economic downtown. Coupled with new brand and product launches for both the inflight and travel retail (ground) divisions, this year’s show will underline Scorpio’s growing strength as a specialist supplier and distributor worldwide.

On the inflight side, the company will be introducing a new range of TravelEasy energy saving devices that will appeal to all environmentally-aware travellers. This includes the EcoButton, a clever gadget which connects to any laptop or desktop computer (via usb) and, at a click of the button, puts it into the lowest power setting. Also new is a wind-up radio, offering top rate signal, wind up shaver and wind up torch. Requiring no power source, these are ideal for use by backpackers, at the beach/pool, camping holidays etc, and any traveller looking for ‘green’ ideas.

Also on the stand will be new collections for existing top selling brands such as Aviator, Esprit, Lacoste and Rotary Watches and Pierre Cardin Jewellery. Aviator Watches will be seen for the first time in new optional, ultra- lightweight packaging, designed with space and fuel economy in mind this box can offer a 59% fuel saving on long haul flights, while sophisticated new window-boxes for Pierre Cardin will also be launched.

Brand new from the highly successful Hello Kitty brand are sunglasses, while Scorpio’s inflight toy selection has been extended with the addition of a number of new plush items including Biggles Bear and a cuddly Tiger Plush along with a new Camel and story book concept.

For Scorpio Travel Retail Sales the brand new stand will allow a much wider range of products to be shown with new styles from Just plush, Gamze,Time Design and Aviator, along with the highly successful new free-standing point of sale unit for Pierre Cardin – first shown in Cannes last year.

Products from Original Additions and Transformulas skincare ranges can also be viewed.

Stand contacts at TFWA Asia Pacific will be Group Managing Director Stuart McGuire, Group Sales Director Richard Kennedy, and Director of Sales Middle East/Asia Garry Stoner.

Scorpio was recently ‘Highly Commended’ as Supplier of the Year at the DFNI Global Awards. Says Richard Kennedy: ‘Being Highly Commended  as Supplier of the Year was a huge boost for Scorpio – still a small company when compared to  the other players nominated we were absolutely delighted to be even considered alongside such prestigious companies . Our mission is to provide real value and service to the industry and the award is indicative that we are achieving that goal.

‘For Scorpio, although we are all facing difficult times in travel retail, we will continue to look long term and believe that Asia Pacific is one of the most exciting growth regions. The key now is to provide the right type of product at the right price for the passengers that do continue to travel; we are confident that the Scorpio portfolio is accurately targeted to this need.’

Scorpio takes jewellery merchandising Into a new dimension

Jewellery and watch merchandising in airports is about to take a major step forward with the launch of the new Pierre Cardin stand-alone self-service unit from Scorpio Travel Retail Sales.

Pierre Cardin has long been a core brand in Scorpio Distributor’s inflight portfolio and now, with new product designs and sophisticated and chic packaging, it is being additionally targeted at airport shops internationally.

‘We felt that merchandising would be key to the brand’s success on the ground,’ says Scorpio group sales director Richard Kennedy. ‘Consequently we’ve spent over a year developing absolutely the right concept for the brand.’  The results already speak for themselves. ‘We have had just two preview meetings of the concept in the UK, before the official launch in Cannes, and have already secured orders from both operators for a total of 10 units,’ continues  Kennedy. ‘Plus, they have ordered back up stock for three months, which is really fantastic.

Specially designed to hold the new and innovative Pierre Cardin boxes, both sides of the unit hold jewellery and watch and jewellery sets. The shelving is spring loaded so that as items are removed another takes its place.

Images on the unit can be simply changed to promote  gifts for Xmas, Mothers Day, Valentines Day, plus seasonal collections for autumn, winter, spring and summer. The Pierre Cardin name is at the top of each side and has the logo at the base which holds additional stocks.

‘The gift sets have been designed exclusively for the unit and are therefore not available inflight or elsewhere on the ground,’ continues Richard Kennedy. ‘It’s a complete merchandising/sales/promotional unit which has been designed to maximise sales whilst taking up minimal space.

‘We are extremely excited about this project and are expecting it to be a top attraction during the week here in Cannes.

We expect the brand to be a major highlight at TFWA World Exhibition this year.’

In other news, KLM has recently extended its Police brand listings with three new items: a watch, men’s jewellery, and sunglasses. Onboard since May 1, all three have shot into the top three selling items within their categories.

Meanwhile, Scorpio business development director Alan Edwards reports continued success with its perfume and cosmetics business, with strong listings for all of its exclusive distribution customers – L’Oreal Prestige, Elizabeth Arden and L’Occitane – for the spring summer season. ‘In addition, Condor – the exclusive perfume and cosmetic agreement with Heinemann which is managed by Scorpio – is now in full swing and we are looking forward to the start of the main holiday season!’
